Have you ever wondered where stars come from? Japan! Where else?

Well maybe not the ones that are already in the sky, but if those ever burn out, Japan has it covered. The photo above is of the machine with the title ‘largest superconducting stellarator in the world’. These superconducting coils within the large helical device in Japan are used to generate magnetic fields strong enough to confine a plasma in the centre which needs to be heated to the point where a controlled nuclear fusion reaction will occur (100 million degrees).

Until next time science fans!
